Steve & Stef’s Laid-Back Love Story at Succop Nature Park
Some love stories begin with a swipe on an app, others with a chance meeting at a coffee shop… but for Steve and his bride, it all started at an unlikely place — a video game tournament. And not just any tournament. This was Super Smash Bros. Melee — a cult-favorite game with a fiercely loyal following.
Back in 2017, they both showed up to a formal-attire-required tournament in Pittsburgh. On that day, they sparked a friendship that turned into a long-distance romance, eventually leading Stef to move from her hometown of Columbus, OH, to Pittsburgh. Falling in love felt easy, and over the years, they built a life full of shared adventures — cooking, baking, running, scuba diving, hiking, and even just happily doing nothing together.
Their Succop Nature Park wedding was designed to reflect their story. Nothing over the top, just intentional moments surrounded by the people who have been part of their journey. They chose to have a close friend officiate, weaving personal touches and shared memories into the ceremony. Instead of following every traditional reception script, they skipped special dances in favor of heartfelt speeches, a private cake cutting, and plenty of lawn games.

It was the kind of day that felt like an exhale — no rush, no rigid schedule, just time to soak it all in. Guests wandered the grounds, laughed over cornhole matches, and enjoyed that perfect balance of celebration and relaxation.
As the evening settled in, the celebration continued just the way they wanted — laughter ringing out over the lawn, conversations flowing, and everyone simply enjoying being together. Their wedding wasn’t just about one day. It was a celebration of years spent side by side, growing closer, and building a life rooted in love, adventure, and a little bit of fun!
As their wedding photographer, it was a joy to capture a day so unapologetically true to who they are. A day that reminded me that the most beautiful weddings aren’t always the most elaborate — they’re the ones that feel like you.
