From Friends to Forever: A National Aviary Wedding Story

Some weddings have cake, some have sparklers…

Deana and Matt’s had a penguin. (Full disclosure: I 100% wanted to take this penguin home.)

Deana and Matt’s story started with friendship. The kind full of laughter, adventures, and a slow “oh wait… you’re actually my person” realization. Their second date was at Phipps Conservatory, wandering through the gardens, and years later Matt proposed in that exact same spot. I know I know they had me in tears when they told me this!

Even though neither of them (or their families!) live in Pittsburgh anymore, this city is where their story began. So they came back to say “I do” with a National Aviary wedding that had everything: heart-shaped sunglasses, wild thunderstorms, a cotton-candy sunset… and yes, a penguin guest star.

The day had its storms and its sunshine, but the best part was how everyone embraced it. To me, that’s what makes a wedding unforgettable — not perfection, but the real, joy-filled moments in between.
